Project Overview

A project that will reshape our approach to sustainable development by integrating alternative economic paradigms into the fabric of societal transitions

Project Mission

MultiFutures' mission is to lead the transition towards a sustainable future by developing innovative policy pathways.

We aim to broaden the range of policy options available to address climate change, fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking approach to environmental sustainability. By exploring alternative paradigms and creating comprehensive transition scenarios, MultiFutures aspires to equip policymakers with the tools and insights necessary for effective and transformative action.

Our project is dedicated to enhancing the potential for policy impact through rigorous analysis, stakeholder engagement, and strategic dissemination of our findings.

We believe that by integrating diverse perspectives and fostering collaborative efforts, we can drive meaningful change and contribute to a resilient, sustainable world for future generations.

Specific Objectives

MultiFutures aims to develop alternative economic paradigms by investigating and integrating diverse frameworks such as degrowth, doughnut economics, and post-growth.

These efforts seek to address the limitations of GDP-centric approaches and provide policymakers with a broader array of tools and perspectives for sustainable and equitable policy creation. Additionally, we focus on creating comprehensive transition scenarios that reflect various policy pathways and their potential impacts on social, economic, and environmental dimensions.

This includes developing new well-being indicators and multidimensional measures that offer a more holistic view of progress. Stakeholder engagement and co-creation are central to our approach, ensuring that developed policies are inclusive, equitable, and reflective of societal needs and aspirations.

By building the capacity of policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders, we aim to facilitate informed decision-making and strategic planning. Through these efforts, MultiFutures strives to promote just transitions, reduce inequalities, and enhance the resilience of vulnerable populations, ultimately supporting a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable future.

Action Plan

January 2024 June 2024

Initiation and Planning

During the first six months, we will launch the project with a kick-off meeting, develop our visual identity, and create a splash page, launch the project website, and establish social media networks, accompanied by the first communication materials.

Data Collection and Initial Analysis

Over the next year, we will engage stakeholders through workshops and interviews to gather valuable insights and data. We will begin model simulations and initial analyses. Early findings will be shared through newsletters and press releases.

June 2025 June 2026

Scenario Development and Mid-Project Review

In the subsequent 12 months, we will develop and refine transition scenarios based on diverse economic paradigms and stakeholder input. The first high-profile policy publication will be released to inform EU policy debates. A mid-project review will be conducted to assess progress and make necessary adjustments.

June 2026 July 2027

Final Analysis and Dissemination

In the final phase, we will perform a comprehensive analysis of policy pathways and publish the second high-profile policy publication. A public event in Brussels will present key findings and engage stakeholders. The project will conclude by ensuring long-term impact and accessibility of results.
